Edward J. Gavin has followed the Meehan Meehan & Gavin tradition of legal excellence since joining the firm in 1990. Mr. Gavin has litigated numerous criminal, civil, labor and administrative matters throughout the State of Connecticut. His success in high profile litigation in state and federal courts has earned him the reputation and recognition as a skillful trial advocate among the state Bar. He is recognized as one of Connecticut's leading defenders in complex criminal cases, include the defense of DWI and alcohol related crimes. Mr. Gavin has also obtained substantial verdicts and settlements in contested civil claims. Mr. Gavin has also served as primary trial counsel for the Bridgeport City Supervisors Association, one of the largest collective bargaining units within the City of Bridgeport.
Mr. Gavin was named a partner in the firm of Meehan Meehan & Gavin in 1996. He has been elected to the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He has served as the Criminal Law Technical Advisor to the Bridgeport Bar Association. Mr. Gavin is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association and the New York Bar Association. He has lectured in criminal law as a faculty member for the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association-People's Law School and has taught numerous seminars on criminal law to the Bridgeport Bar Association. Mr. Gavin has authored multiple articles concerning the practice of criminal law published in Bar Association periodicals including Counsel for the Defense.
Mr. Gavin is admitted to practice in the State of Connecticut and State of New York. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Edward J. Gavin also serves as a member of the Executive Board for the Regional Network of Programs and The Golden Hill Foundation ,nonprofit organizations established to assist individuals with substance abuse and dependency problems. He has been recognized by publications such as THE CONNECTICUT LAW TRIBUNE and THE CONNECTICUT POST for his service to the greater Bridgeport community.
