Connecticut has two levels of appellate courts. The intermediary level, where most appeals originate is the Appellate Court. There is a panel of judges permanently assigned to this Court. An Appellate Court panel consists of three judges and the majority vote controls. The Connecticut Supreme Court sits above the Appellate Court and limits itself to cases of substantial importance. Richard T. Meehan, Jr. began his legal career when he served for one year as a law clerk to the late Herbert MacDonald when he sat as a Supreme Court Justice. Supreme Court clerkships have been awarded to the top graduates of major law schools. Mr. Meehan obtained valuable insight to the workings and mindset of Connecticut appellate judges that has allowed him a great deal of success as an appellate lawyer.
Appeals are complex legal cases that require thorough familiarity, not only with the law but with the intricate procedures necessary to properly perfect an appeal.
